Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi (SUAD) was established in May 2006 under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in partnership between Sorbonne University and the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK). In December 2009 SUAD moved to its purpose-built 93,000 sqm permanent campus on Al Reem Island. The campus accommodates 500 students in residence (separate buildings for men and women). Degrees follow the European Credit Transfer (ECTS) system and are dual-accredited by UAE CAA and French Ministry. Research conducted via SAFIR institute.
