In January 2025, the University of Exeter signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish its first overseas branch campus, at the Ain Shams University International Campus in Cairo, Egypt. This is a historic announcement: the FIRST Russell Group university branch campus anywhere in Africa. The partnership is facilitated by the British Council's Higher Education Transnational Education (TNE) programme. The campus will offer globally accredited undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes from the University of Exeter, alongside dual-degree offerings jointly with Ain Shams University. Exact opening dates, programme list and tuition fees have not yet been publicly disclosed at the time of writing, this profile will be updated as further details emerge. Cairo is a vibrant, ancient city of approximately 22 million people, one of Africa's and the Middle East's leading cultural, educational and economic hubs. Ain Shams University, Exeter's host institution, is one of Egypt's largest and oldest public universities (founded 1950) with seven campuses across Cairo and Shubra El-Kheima. The Ain Shams International Campus where Exeter's programmes will be delivered is designed to international standards.
